On Thursday 2nd October, we celebrated National Poetry Day.
National Poetry Day is a UK-wide celebration of poetry. It is a chance to enjoy, discover and share poetry with others. National Poetry Day is an annual event which happens on the first Thursday of October.
The day began with a special assembly led by Mrs Sissons. During the assembly, we wrote and performed a poem called “Pensilva at Play”.
In English, each class explored and responded to poems linked to this year’s theme of play. The children really enjoyed the activities and were enthusiastic poets.

Doves: 'Monster March' by Jane Newberry
Puffins: 'Rules for a Good Walk' by Lucinda Jacob
Buzzards: 'Word Play' by Michaela Morgan
At lunchtime, Mrs Sissons was in the library reading poetry aloud. Many children snuggled on the cushions and listened carefully. They laughed and responded to the poems, identifying their favourites and expressing their likes and dislikes.
To finish the celebrations, during shared reading, poems were read and performed in classes.
A great day was enjoyed!
