At Pensilva, our daily assemblies are a valued part of school life. They provide opportunities for reflection, celebration and engagement with our school values and the wider world. Each day has a distinct focus designed to help helping to nurture the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils.
Monday – Open The Book
We begin the week with a visit from our local church volunteers who lead Open The Book. Through engaging dramatizations of Bible stories, children explore themes such as kindness, courage, and forgiveness. These assemblies support our RE curriculum and offer moments of reflection and inspiration.
Tuesday – Ethos and Values
Tuesday assemblies focus on our school ethos 'Working Together To Make A Difference', values of 'To Live, To Love, To Learn' and core rules (Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Ready). We also explore British values. These sessions help children understand how values shape our community and guide our actions.
Wednesday – Sports Assembly
Led by Mr Jones, our Wednesday assemblies celebrate sporting achievements both in and out of school. We promote an active lifestyle, teamwork and perseverance, while also highlighting the importance of well-being and physical health.
Thursday – Picture News
Using current news stories from around the world, Picture News assemblies encourage pupils to ask questions and broaden their horizons. We link these discussions to British values, PSHE and global citizenship, helping children understand the world around them.
Friday – Celebration Assembly
Our week ends with a joyful Celebration Assembly, where we recognise pupils’ achievements both academically and personally. We celebrate effort, progress and our school’s POWER values (Perseverance, Ownership, Wonder, Excellence, Respect). It’s a time to come together and applaud the many ways our children shine.
Special Assemblies and Community Worship
In addition to our regular weekly assemblies, we hold special community assemblies throughout the year to mark key moments in the calendar. These include:
- Harvest Festival
- Christmas Service
- Easter Celebration
These events are held in the community and offer a meaningful opportunity for the wider school family to come together to reflect and celebrate.
We also gather for a half-termly church assembly led by Rev Li. These link to the Church calendar, as well as our RE curriculum.
These occasions strengthen our ties with the local community and provide rich experiences that support pupils’ spiritual and cultural development.
