Year 6 Heatree Residential

23rd May 2018
Year 6 had a fantastic time at Heatree Activity Centre, Dartmoor on Wednesday 23rd -Friday 25th May.

On the first day we arrived and after lunch went into our first activity of Orienteering. It was a long and challenging course covering the grounds of the activity centre. The children were rather exhausted afterwards! Dinner was either fish or sausage and chips, followed by sticky toffee pudding and custard, yummy!

On Thursday we had breakfast and went to our first activity of the day, which was High Ropes. It was a series of rope tasks linking high into the trees. We all had safety harnesses and helmets on. Some of us managed to complete all the tasks, while some of us tried our best and really pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones - well done!

After lunch we went onto Kayaking. We all put on the clothing and helmets and headed to the lakes. It was great fun. One task involved moving from kayak to kayak... some of us fell in! Later on we were able to jump into the lake too.

That evening we had a roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings (including Yorkshire puddings), followed by pudding of ice cream and sauce! Afterwards we went to the Ancient Round House and had a camp fire and sang songs from Mamma Mia, whilst toasting marshmallows and eating rocky road cake. We then returned back to our accommodation building, all changed into our PJs and watched Paddington Bear 2, whilst eating our sweets. Everyone went to sleep fairly quickly that night after a long and busy day.

On Friday we had breakfast and once again put on a helmet to go rock scrambling on Dartmoor. We went by minibus to Hound Tor and following the instructors directions climbed over rocks and went through crevices. Later on we stopped for a hot chocolate break. Finally, after the activity we returned back to the centre for our lunch and to load the coach before returning back to school.

It was a fantastic and enjoyable trip and the children were a real credit to themselves, their parents and the school. Well done to all who took part.
