Local author—Ellie Jackson visits Pensilva Primary School

On Tuesday, local author, Ellie Jackson, visited our school to talk about the Ocean and how bad plastics are. She has written a number of books about this topic including Duffy’s Lucky Escape and Marli’s Tangled Tale. She spoke about the devastating effects rubbish has on the Ocean and consequent troubles and the impact upon sea animals. She      challenged all children to collect any rubbish seen on the beach when visiting with family. By educating young people, she believes that we are safeguarding the future and raising a more enlightened generation. She aims to have at least one copy of her book in every school in the UK by the end of 2018.

The danger to sea life from plastic in the oceans is a topic of great concern. Each year, 100 million sea creatures die as a direct result of plastic in the oceans – depleting biodiversity and impoverishing our environment.
