Tiddy Class - EYFS/Year One

Welcome to Tiddy Class!

We are a mixed EYFS and Y1 class and our teacher is Miss Thomas every day except Fridays when Mrs McDowell teaches us. Mrs McDowell also covers Miss Thomas’s non-contact time on a Thursday afternoon. Our Teaching assistant is Mrs Hollyman.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum which has seven areas of learning including: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Communication and Language; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; Expressive Art and Design. These areas all help us develop our learning through high quality play and adult led activities.

We are very lucky at Pensilva Primary School, especially us in Tiddy Class because we have a wonderful wild area just outside our classroom. We use this area for lots of our learning and it gives us wonderful opportunities to develop our gross and fine motor skills, explore nature, learn to take risks and problem solving.

Every Thursday we have a specialist PE teacher called Mr Jones teach us our PE lesson and throughout the year we have opportunities for Forest School lessons with Mrs Thomas.

Reading takes place every day with the adults in our class so our books are changed regularly. We have letter cards and key word cards in our book bags to practise at home. Reading at home, as often as you can, is encouraged, as this impacts on so much of our learning at school. If you need any support with this please feel free to speak to Miss Thomas.

Phonics is taught every day and we follow the ReadWriteInc programme with a mixture of Jolly Phonics and Phonics Play for interactive games. Phonics is such an important part of our day as it helps us become fantastic readers and writers! If you would like to help your child more with phonics there are great interactive games you can play on www.phonicsplay.com or gain more information and insight from www.readwriteinc.com

Our EYFS children have collaborative, on-line Learning Journeys, which allow parents to see what they have been learning at school and add ‘wow’ moments from home. If you are not feeling confident with using Tapestry please pop in and see Miss Thomas who will run through it with you. We also have paper versions of ‘wow’ moments you can fill in at home and Miss Thomas will happily load it on to your child’s journal for you. https://tapestryjournal.com/

Our topic this half term is all about 'Fairytales' and you can find out more about what we’ll be learning in our topic web attached below.
